“I going to college,” said Velarde of her plans for after high school. “I may play on a volleyball club team while I study. I want to pursue a medical or business career.”
“The most important attributes of being a leader are listening, inspiring, and putting everyone else before you,” said Velarde. Her favorite subject is Science I, specifically anatomy. “I like learning about how we all work internally and how every tiny cell greatly contributes to our overall function.”
When ask the most difficult thing to overcome as a student-athlete, Velarde said, “mentally preparing myself for a game. Sometimes I would let the pressure get to me and as a result, I wouldn’t give my best performance”
