Union, NJ – Tapinto Union has named Union High School athletes Justin Beckett and Alyssa Caggiano September Athletes of the Month.
Senior quarterback and football team Captain, Beckett rushed for 315 yards, 8 touchdowns, passed for 348 yards and 4 touchdowns in September. Defensively, he had 10 tackles and 4 pass break.
When asked who inspires him, Beckett said, “my father. He is constantly pushing me.”
After high school, Beckett plans to attend college and play football. His favorite athlete is Odell Beckham. “I like his swagger and you can tell he lives life to the fullest,” said Beckett.
Beckett said his greatest high school accomplishment so far came during the Piscataway football game last season. “We were down by a touchdown or two and they were going in to score another touchdown, which would have sealed the game for them,” he said. “The touchdown we scored after a fumble was a game changer.”
Soccer player Caggiano has had 11 goals this season and a career goal total of 34. She’s had 12 assists in her 4 years playing for Union.
Caggiano plans to play soccer in college. When asked who inspires her, she said, “my parents, because they have taught me to always work hard.” Caggiano’s favorite athlete is Alex Morgan because “she is such a hard worker on the National team”.
“Playing in the Union County Soccer finals in 2014,” is Caggiano’s greatest high school accomplishment so far.
When asked about her challenges, Caggiano said “getting home late and doing school work, trying to manage being successful in sports and school.”
“Always work hard and never give up,” added Caggiano. “That would be my words of wisdom to be future UHS Athletes.”
