ELIZABETH, NJ - A male teenager remains in critical condition after being shot in the head last night, authorities said. 

The Elizabeth Police Department responded to an apartment on the 800 block of Monroe Avenue around 9:45 p.m. where they found the 16-year-old victim in the basement, Union County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Mark Spivey said today.

The victim was transported to University Hospital in Newark for emergency treatment and remains there, Spivey said.

No arrests and no charges have been made, he added.
