UNION, NJ – The alumni of the month for February for the “U Success” program at Union High School includes a senior account manager, a senior medical associate and a middle school principal.
The “U Success” program honors three Union High School alumni each month with the “Wall of Success” in the lobby of the school. Whenever possible, the alumni come back to the school to talk with students in the classes that pertain to their profession.
“So many people from Union High School are doing well in their professions,” said Akua Boakye, an alumni herself and current teacher at Union High. “Whether they went to college or a trade school, they have become successful in their field. I wanted a way to honor them and show students how these former Union High students have worked hard and succeeded.”
The February “Wall of Honor” features Nicole Medina from the class of 2005, who is a senior account manager at Yext NYC, Dr. Ijeoma Chimezie, also a 2005 graduate, who is a senior medical associate at Ogilvy Common Health Worldwide, and Nicholas DeCorte from the class of 1997, who is principal of Memorial Middle School in Cedar Grove and co-owner of DeCo Properties, NJ.
Last month, Bayaan A. Oluyadi, a 2010 graduate and a tax accountant (CPA), came back to school and spoke with the accounting classes, sharing experiences and his road to success.
The program includes a twice yearly panel of six returning alumni for a question and answer session with the students. “My hope is for the current students to feel motivated by the success of the alumni and strive for their own greatness, as well as acknowledging the alumni and letting them know that we here at UHS are proud of them and their success,” said Boakye.
