UNION, NJ - Union firefighters and police are responding to multiple calls of fire alarms, fallen wires and transformer fires around town from the heavy rain and gusty winds Tuesday afternoon.

Tropical Storm Isaias has caused a transformer fire on Route 22 west, near Chick-fil-A, causing traffic to come to a standstill.  Several large trees around town have come down, bringing wires and fences down, and creating street blockages.

Township officials urge residents to stay away from any trees or power lines that may come down as they may be energized and extremely dangerous.  They also ask residents to help first responders by keeping the roads clear and avoiding travel, if possible. If you come upon a roadway that appears to be flooded, do not drive through it; turn around.
