CRANFORD – The Office of Continuing Education at Union County College is offering Uniform Construction Code courses this summer for individuals interested in construction and licensure. These programs have been approved by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.
The Subcode Official course will be offered as a hybrid program with classes both in person and online. In this course, students will learn the duties of the Subcode Official as they pertain to administration and legal aspects of code enforcement, including reviewing construction documents and building plans for subcode compliance. As a prerequisite, students must already have a technical license (i.e., R.C.S., I.C.S., or H.H.S.). The in-person class will be held on Tuesday, May 28 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Cranford campus. The remaining sessions will be held online utilizing the Canvas learning platform on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from May 30 through July 2. The cost of this program is $525.
The Construction Official is the chief administrator of a local code enforcing agency who establishes and enforces the agency policies to assure compliance with the Uniform Construction Code. This 45-hour hybrid course reviews the duties and responsibilities of the Construction Official and covers four topic areas: Administration, Legal Methods of Code Enforcement, Legislation, and Sub-Code. Students must already have a subcode official license to enroll. The in-person class will be held at the Cranford campus on Tuesday, July 23 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. The remaining online sessions will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from July 25 through August 27. The cost of this program is $525.
