UNION, NJ - With the uncertainty of the baseball season at the start of the summer weighing on the Union Blaze 10U team, they played an incredible season with a record of 8 wins / 2 defeats.
The August 6 playoff game against Park East (East Hanover) at ESNA Hickory Manor Baseball Complex was electric with both teams determined to be victorious and make it to the finals. Union Blaze ended the game in the top of the 5th inning with a score of 7-5.
The season was restructured this year to meet the requirements of Governor Murphy’s social distancing rules playing against only four travel teams (Park East, Chatham, Cranford and Summit). The Union Blaze had two losses against Park East this season, their only two losses which made the playoff win so much more special.
“We started off strong leading in the first inning,” said Coach Khalid Hassan. “We scored more today than the last game so it feels that much better,” said Coach Edwin German.
Coach Tee (Demond Hargrove) said, “they’re our kids, and we’re so proud of them” and Coach Schuyler said, “they fought to the end and that’s what we teach them.”
The Championship game against divisional champs will be played Monday, August 10 on their field in Long Hill. The Blaze team and all the baseball-loving kids in Union are looking forward to a great upcoming Fall Ball season.
“We got them,” said Coach Mark Womack. “Now off to the Championships.”
