UNION, NJ – As a result of the Tuesday afternoon suicide of an employee at the Union Animal Shelter, the Shelter is currently closed to the public.

Township of Union Assistant Business Administrator Tammie Kopin said, “Township of Union employees are saddened by the loss of one of our colleagues and our thoughts and prayers are with their family at this difficult time.”

Kopin reports there are currently six dogs and five cats at the shelter.  Staff are caring for the animals.  “We have multiple capable employees in this department,” said Kopin.  The shelter is scheduled to re-open to residents on Monday.
