UNION, NJ – Pre-Easter festivities were in full bloom in Union Center on Saturday as the 2017 Spring Extravaganza, hosted by the Special Improvement District, took place.
Beginning at 10:30, over 70 people took advantage of the $5 movies at the Union Theater, which included free popcorn and a drink.
From 12:00 – 3:00 p.m., other Center businesses participated in the Extravaganza in a variety of ways. At Gusta Rosso, a caricature artist thrilled kids of all ages. Free cookies were provided at Conca D’Oro Bakery and a balloon artist was busy in front of Killer Vegan.
“We were really busy today,” said Conca D’Oro Bakery owner Juan Lopez. “Kids from all over Union and from neighboring towns and counties stopped by for our free cookies. It was great to see so many people.”
BCB Bank hosted a face painter, who worked non-stop, as children lined up to get a flower, or a puppy or another design painted on their face. BCB Bank Business Development Officer Marie Maguire said the face painting was a big hit. “The best part of the day,” said Maguire,” was seeing the kids’ reactions. They were so excited as they waited their turn and then their faces just lit up when they saw the result.”
Sand art and free pizza was available at Woodstack and a Henna artist was busy applying beautiful designs at Express Latin Grill.
After getting her photo with the Easter Bunny at Here’s the Story Bookstore, six-year old Udazia said she liked the henna tattoo the best. “But I liked the sand art a lot, too,” she added.
To finish out the Extravaganza, a magician entertained a full house at Union’s United Taekwondo Academy.
“It was an exciting day,” said SID Director Fatimah Raymond. “It was great to see families enjoying the Center and great to see so much foot traffic in the area.”
