UNION, NJ - Ushered into the meeting by a bagpiper, the Union’s Mayor and Township Committee recognized the Union County St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee at Tuesday night's Committee Meeting and congratulated the parade’s Grand Marshal, General Chairwoman and Parade Adjutant.
“It’s my honor here tonight to introduce the officers of the 22nd Union County St. Patrick’s Day Parade,” said Deputy Mayor Joseph Florio. “I’ve seen this parade grow bigger and bigger. In my opinion, it’s the best in Union County and one of the best in the state.”
“I know what a big effort it is to put this parade on the street every year,” continued Florio. “Union is proud to have been host to this parade for 22 years.”
A Mayor’s Award was presented to John McPartland, this year’s grand marshal. McPartland is the owner of Molly Maguire’s Irish Pub and Restaurant in Clark. “John opens Molly’s doors to a host of Irish-American organizations for their meetings and also hosts a yearly golf outing benefiting the Union County St. Patrick’s Day Parade,” said Florio.
Also presented with a Mayor’s Award was General Chairwoman Kathleen Holmes, Union’s Assistant Municipal Clerk. “Kathleen is an active member of Union Township and serves on several charitable committees,” said Florio.
Parade adjutant Pam Joyce also received a Mayor’s Award. Florio said, “Pam credits her friends and co-workers with getting her involved with the parade and is honored and grateful to be chosen as the 2018 adjutant.”
“I have to thank all these people behind me,” said McPartland. “They have been putting this parade on the street for 22 years. I’ll be very proud to lead the Irish-American community down Morris Avenue.”
The 22th annual Union County St. Patrick's Day Parade will take place next Saturday, March 10, and kicks-off at 1:00 p.m.
