UNION, NJ -  The Township of Union Fire Department will be hosting an open house during Fire Prevention Week.

The open house is set for Saturday, October 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.   The event will take place at Union Fire Headquarters on Bond Drive. 

During National Fire Prevention Week, a week dedicated to informing the public on the importance of fire prevention, the Union Fire Department hopes to promote prevention and awareness through fun and innovation.

Some of the day’s activities are set to include: 

·         A dunk tank

·         An obstacle course for kids

·         Hourly firehouse tours

·         Seminars on basic first aid and CPR

·         Extrication demos

·         Meet and greet with local firemen

·         Games and more
Complimentary refreshments and hot dogs will be provided.

President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the first National Fire Prevention Week on October 4-10, 1925.  It is observed on the Sunday through Saturday period in which October 9 falls, in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire, which began October 8, 1871.

This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is “Every Second Counts: Plan Two Ways Out,” and encourages having a clear and practiced escape plan with two exit strategies in the event of a fire.
