UNION, NJ – Union firefighters responded to a home on Madison Avenue in Elizabeth on Wednesday for a reported building collapse.

According to Union Deputy Chief Mike Scanio, Elizabeth firefighters were tied up on a small building fire and the Union squad arrived along with some of the Elizabeth companies to find a 2 ½ story wood frame structure with the foundation along the right side of the house severely compromised from years of neglect.

Numerous members and companies from Union and Elizabeth are trained in ‘Special Operations’ for just this type of incident, said Scanio.  Both departments worked within a unified command, and Raker style braces were built and put into place to stabilize that side of the building.

There were no reported injuries or entrapments.
