UNION, NJ – Union firefighters had a busy Thursday night/Friday morning responding to two fires in the township.
At approximately 9:45 Thursday night, firefighters were dispatched to Nottingham Way on the report of a house fire. According to Union Fire Chief Mike Scanio, Engine 3 arrived to find a fire in an attached garage. Firefighters stretched a hose line to begin extinguishment. The home was vacant and undergoing major renovations. Scanio said the fire was confined to the garage and brought under control in about 15 minutes. No injuries were reported and mutual aid covered Union.
Several hours later at 5:30 a.m., with a report of smoke coming from a Milltown Court building, firefighters arrived to find fire on the second floor of a large commercial building. The fire was brought under control within 40 minutes, Scanio said. No injuries were reported.
