WESTFIELD, NJ – Union quarterback Justin Beckett supplied both touchdowns for the Farmers in their NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 5 semifinal at Westfield on Saturday.

Unfortunately for Union, two scores was not nearly enough, as the Farmers fell to the Blue Devils, 44-14, to end their state championship hopes.

Westfield came out strong and dominated the first half of Saturday’s sectional playoff game.  Scoring five touchdowns to go up 34 to 0.

Blue Devil running back Jack Curry scored two touchdowns, while Westfield quarterback Zach Kelly hit Jelani Parker and J.D. Marner with passing scores to lead Westfield into the finals.

Trailing 34-0, Beckett scored from 1-yard out to put Union on the board late in the second quarter.

Following Westfield’s sixth touchdown of the day, Beckett his Kyle Boyd for a 62-yard strike for Union’s second score of the game.

Despite the loss, Union has one more game to prepare for, a Thanksgiving Eve matchup at Linden. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday night.
