UNION, NJ – The Ultimate Unity Block Party took place on Sunday at Rabkin Park under warm September skies with hundreds of residents enjoying food, music and neighbors.
The idea for the Ultimate Unity Block Party was born after the tragic shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando to give Union residents a means of coming together and supporting each other.
Event organizer Holly Schneider said after watching so many tragic events unfold on the news and seeing so many communities affected, she wanted to do something to bring people together. “I have a big cookout every year. It gets everyone out for fun and food.” With the support of the governing body, the Ultimate Unity Block Party grew into a town-wide event with food, games and entertainment.
“It’s great to have people from all walks of life come out today,” said Union Mayor Manuel Figueiredo.
Party goers could participate in organized events including kickball, volleyball, sack races, a water balloon toss, face painting, arts and crafts, a hypnotist show, DJs and more.
All of the food and drinks and services were donated for the event.
