UNION, NJ - Two Union High School graduates competed for Team Nigeria in the IAAF World Relays in the Bahamas last weekend.
Both Ugonna Ndu, class of 2009, and Jennifer Edobi, class of 2014, ran in Team Nigeria’s 4 x 400. The team won their heat on Saturday night and qualified for the final on Sunday night, where they finished fifth, and qualified for the World Championships this summer in London.
This is not the first time these two athletes have made team Nigeria. Ndu ran on the 2014 World Championship team in the 400 hurdles, and was the 2014 Nigerian National Champion in both hurdle races.
Edobi has run for the Nigerian under 21 team in 2014 at the World Jr. Championships in the 800 and 4 x 400. Both Ndu and Edobi had immense success at Union High School and on their college teams. Edobi, a junior at Vanderbilt, holds eight Union High School records and several Union County records to go along with two Vanderbilt records.
Ndu, a graduate of the University of Florida, still holds five Union High School records and earned two University of Florida records.
