UNION, NJ – A ‘Union Night at the Somerset Patriots Ballpark’ event was held Friday night.  Hosted by the “We are Union” coalition, several local heroes were honored.

The Union PBA, FOP, FMBA, and NJEA purchased 250 tickets for the Union little leaguers and local families.  Ten members of the Union community were honored by the “We are Union” coalition:

MaryAnn Imroth – Imroth is a board member of  the Central Jersey Red, White and Blue Veteran Racing Team.  Imroth is extremely committed to helping disabled veterans achieve their goals.

Union County Freeholder Vice Chairman Sergio Granados – Freeholder Granados is a community activist who has experience working with various non-profits and volunteer organizations.  He is dedicated to helping veterans and special needs children live a better life.

Union Police Sergeant Walter Stinner – Sgt. Stinner is one of the department's most respected and decorated officers.  Sgt. Stinner has been assigned to the Detective Bureau Street Crimes Unit and the SWAT team and participates in numerous local charities.

Union Police Department Detective Anthony Lagoa – Det. Lagoa is a highly decorated and respected officer who is currently assigned to the Detective Bureau and SWAT team.  Det. Lagoa spends free time with various charitable organizations.

VFW Commander Leo Graf -  Graf is an Army Vietnam War veteran who has dedicated his life to helping veterans and first responders.  Nearly every day Graf goes out of his way to help others without asking for anything in return.

Deputy Mayor Suzette Cavadas- Cavadas been a Township Committeewoman for years and has done so much for residents and Township employees.  She has volunteered  countless hours to help make the Township the best in the State.

Union Columbiettes Board member Fran Corcione – Corcione has dedicated her life to helping others.  She has spearheaded numerous charity events and has been involved in many others.  Corcione is a true humanitarian who puts others first.

Firefighter Patrick Machado – Firefighter Machado is an extremely hardworking and dedicated fireman who is always helping others.  Recently, both he and his brother saved a man from a horrific motor vehicle accident.  They were able to pull an elderly man out of a car and immediately started CPR until local EMS responded and revived the man.

Jr. ParaOlympian Nicholas DaPonte-  DaPonte is a paraOlympic athlete who took first place in numerous races and was just awarded for being the fastest athlete in his division.

Union Teacher Mary Ellen Pattricco- Pattricco is a beloved teacher who has dedicated her life to helping local students.  She has started a camp that encourages students to be more creative.  She has also organized a Cancer walk that raised over $50,000 dollars.
