UNION, NJ – Kayla Veloso-Lima has been chosen Union High School’s November Female Athlete of the Month, sponsored by Service Professionals.
Veloso-Lima, class of 2019, is a three-year starter for the women’s soccer team. In 22 games this season, she has had 17 goals and 12 assists.
What’s your favorite part of being a high school athlete?
My favorite part of being a high school athlete is being able to be on a team with a group of girls that I don’t always get to play with in club soccer as well as having the whole school behind you
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
My favorite athlete is Tobin Heath because I’ve always liked her technical ability on the ball and the skills she uses.
What are the most important attributes of being a leader?
I think the most important attributes of being a leader is being able to push yourself as well as being able to push others.
What is your greatest high school accomplishment so far?
I think my greatest accomplishment in high school so far is definitely making varsity freshman year as well as being invited to the Union County Banquet.
Do you play any other sports? What’s your favorite?
I like to play all sports with friends but I also run track for the school. I think out of all the sports I’d still choose soccer over all as my favorite.
What’s your favorite subject? Why?
I don’t really have a favorite subject. I just always try my best in all subjects.
If you could spend the day with anyone in the world alive or dead, who would it be?
I would want to spend the day with Tobin Heath because she is the player that I look up to and I would like to play and learn new skills from her.
What would your words of wisdom to be future UHS Athletes?
For future UHS athletes I would tell them to make sure they are able to manage their school work as well as their sport because at times it may get overwhelming, but also to have fun with your sport and always work hard when you are playing or even practice.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
When I grow up I would like to be an athletic trainer.
What is the most difficult thing for you to overcome as a student-athlete?
I think the most difficult thing to overcome as a student athlete is being able to balance the time for school work and time to play the sport.
Who inspires you?
I would say my parents and coaches inspire me because I know they always want what's best for me and they always push me to do my best.
What are your plans after high school?
After high school I plan on going to college for athletic therapy and I would like to play soccer in college as well.
