ELIZABETH, NJ – The Union Knights of Columbus, JFK Assembly #666, cosponsored a Wreaths Across America event on Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Elizabeth with the Elizabeth Garden Club, in tribute to the lives of hero soldiers dating from the American Revolution.

Earlier in the week, volunteers from the JFK Assembly Knights of Columbus located each of the veteran graves last weekend and placed a marker by the grave.  Len Komar, JFK Assembly 0666 Faithful Navigator, said, “we marked the graves so people would know where to place a wreath in case it was difficult to see because of the snow.”

Komar said the Knights, Elizabeth Mayor Christian Bollwage, the Elizabeth Garden Club, Cub Scouts of Staten Island, Boy Scouts of Staten Island and Elizabeth Police Honor Guard helped place the wreaths on the veteran’s grave sites.

The goal of the effort is to ensure that the individuals who served to protect the freedoms of the country are not, and never will be, forgotten.  Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, over 1,200 locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea, and abroad honor fallen veterans by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies.

Retro Review: Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo

Retro Review: Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo (Citadel Press, 1970)

How does a reviewer do justice to a book called “the great American novel”? I first read Johnny Got His Gun during the Viet Nam war, when young people, nationwide, were protesting fighting in a war that was a senseless waste of life; a war in which the United States had no business participating.

The Truth About My Reading

The Truth About My Reading

He appropriately intimidated freshmen, even me, an English major, who found this common core course beneath my dignity. Frankly, as a graduate of Highland Park High School, and a survivor of Mrs.
