UNION, NJ – A Union police officer, a fireman, an EMT, teachers, and a senior citizen were honored recently at the Annual Shield Award ceremony at the Union Knights of Columbus.

The Shield Awards ceremony honors Union service personnel and recognizes Council members who display steadfast involvement, dedication and commitment.  Knights of the Month and the Knight and Columbian of the Year awards were also presented as well as the Shining Armor Award.

Senior Citizen of the Year:

     John Janowski

Certificates of recognition for their steadfast involvement, dedication and commitment to the Council were presented to James “Jimmy” Bayer and William “Bill” Peter.   Ed Stonack, whose wake was held earlier that day, was posthumously recognized.  His certificate was presented to his family at the wake service conducted by the Council.

Mike Peter, PGK, the out-going Program Director, was presented with a Certificate of Recognition by the Council for his untiring and unselfish work during the 16 years that he has been a member of 4504. Phil Cababe and Joshua Merida were presented with the Shining Armor Award for their help recruiting new members.

The Knights of the Month for the past Columbian Year were presented with plaques and certificates. The final presentations for the night were the Knight of the Year – Edward McCormick, PGK -- and Columbian of the Year – Kris Cancellieri.

Following the ceremony, awardees, friends and members of 4504 mingled and shared experiences and enjoyed the refreshments provided by Council 4504 and the Columbian Club.
