UNION, NJ – Benefiting Union High School’s Project Graduation, Union’s First Annual Lantern Run 5K and Food Truck Festival is set for May 6.

The event, sponsored by the Township of Union, has grown to be a daylong happening featuring a nighttime 5K, music, food trucks, games and more.

“We’re so excited to bring this event to our residents,” said Union Mayor Suzette Cavadas. “The township is always looking for new and innovative ways to bring our residents together, and there is no better reason than to support our very own students at Union High School.”

The Lantern Run walk/run is open to participants of all ages. Runners and walkers decorating themselves, with glow sticks and/or paint and “Light up the Night” through a certified 5K course.

Registration for the Lantern Run is $35 for individuals ($30 for groups of three or more), and has been upgraded to include a swag bag filled with glow gear, a Lantern run shirt, snacks, a commemorative race bib, and a complementary entrance pass to the festival.

·         Mama Dudes Food Truck

·         Aunt Dee Dee's Baked Goodness

·         Tacos Al Carbon

·         Big John's Gourmet Burgers

·         Hawaiian Husky Shaved Ice

·         Tropical Taste

·         Hot Rod’s Real Pit BBQ

·         Gina’s Food

Various performances have been added to the day, including 9:53 Music Group and Alden Street, a step performance by the Hillside Showtime Strutters, a Taekwondo demonstration by Union’s United Taekwondo Academy and a battle of the DJ’s, where six DJ’s will battle it out for a cash prize.

Race activities begin at 5:30 p.m. with packet pick-up, 7:00 p.m. race line-up and 7:45 race kick-off. Festival grounds will be open from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  A $5 admission per person will be charged to non-runners.
