UNION, NJ – Union Police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles to prevent the theft of the vehicle or items left inside.  Police also discourage leaving a vehicle running while unattended.

According to a Facebook post by Union Police, items such as cell phones, mp3 players and personal music systems, cameras, wallets, purses, garage door openers and other items of value should be removed after parking your vehicle.  Window suction cups and/or brackets or wires which attach to these devices should also be removed because their presence may encourage a thief to look further.

Police also recommend removing brief cases and other containers which hold personal information that could put you or others at risk for identity theft.  The vehicle’s Owner’s Manual’s that may contain valet keys or code numbers for keys should also be removed from the vehicle.
