UNION, NJ – A man found asleep in the driver’s seat of a vehicle was arrested by Township of Union police and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and violating his bail agreement. The man has been identified as Union resident Michael Castiglione.
Union police report that on April 12 they received a call just before 4:00 a.m. of a man passed out behind the wheel of a white Cadillac in the area of Stuyvesant Avenue and Vauxhall Road. Police found Castiglione asleep in the driver’s seat with his foot on the brake and the car in gear. The officers entered the car, put it in park and engaged the emergency brake. According to police, the officers observed three vials of a white powder they believed to be cocaine.
The officers awoke the driver, later identified as Michael Castiglione, and retrieved the vials of cocaine. Castiglione was then arrested and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
Castiglione was out on bail from an arrest in June 2016. These charges violated the terms of his release and he was returned to the Union County Jail. He is also on probation due to prior arrests and this arrest resulted in a violation of his probation.
