CLARK, NJ – Of the three years the Rotary Club of Union has participated in the Generosity Series 5k in Oak Ridge Park this was the most successful.
Fundraising efforts raised over $11,000, benefiting the Lacerda family of Union. As reported by Tapinto Union in April, Michael Lacerda suffered an aneurysm in May 2016 and the family has faced many medical and financial challenges since.
Eleven Rotarians registered to run/walk the course joined by Chrissy Lacerda and three family friends.
“Some of our Rotarian family members took to the course as well as the registrants to lend support,” said Robert O'Connell of the Union Rotary. “Two of our youngest completed the course in running fashion. And one of our hardest working members completed the walk, partially in his wheelchair pushed by his daughters, and partially walking behind the chair.”
O’Connell said Ed Rosenhaft, despite suffering an aneurysm in 2007, felt compelled to help Michael Lacerda as “he knows firsthand how an aneurysm can affect daily life”.
“This was another amazingly successful event,” said Chrissy Lacerda. “The town of Union certainly knows how to come together and help in time of need. I hope I am in a position to help others out one day as well.”
