UNION, NJ - Three Union High School students, finalists in the Marvin Orella Speech Contest, were honored at the Union Rotary’s Annual Eloquence Soiree last week.
The Rotary Club of Union honored Union High School's winners of the Marvin Orella Speech Contest, celebrating its 21st year. The contest has given out over $100,000 in scholarships since its inception in 1997.
Guests at the event heard the top three finalists, who were not aware of the winning outcome. After the orations, scholarships were handed out to Gabriella Valente ($2,500), Jazlyn Sarpong ($1,500) and Melany Marin Garcia ($1,000).
Chaired by past Rotary Club President Laura Bretzger, the evening was capped off with a basket auction and Super 50/50 which helps to fund the scholarships for the students.
“The Union Rotary is grateful for the opportunity to challenge and reward the fine students of Union High School and thanks to the community for lending its support of this cause,” said the Union Rotary in a press release.
