UNION, NJ – A Union teenager was fatally shot in Newark on Sunday afternoon according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. 

Daquill Grant, 18, of Union, was identified as the person found fatally shot in the 100 block of South 9th Street, Newark, on Sunday afternoon.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose have announced that authorities are investigating the incident.  According to authorities, at approximately 5:19 p.m., Newark police officers, who were in the area on routine patrol, heard gunshots in the 100 block of South 9th Street.  The officers responded to the location of the shots and observed an unresponsive male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department. The investigation is active and ongoing at this time, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly.  No further information is available at this time.
