UNION, NJ – Union’s new Recreation Director was welcomed at last week’s Township Committee Meeting.

Robert Cowper begins his new job on Monday.  Committeewoman Michele Delisfort introduced Cowper as a certified Parks and Recreation professional, who was previously the Assistant Recreation Director in Paramus.

Delisfort said Cowper received a degree in Commercial Recreation from Montclair State University and has participated in several certificate programs in planning and playground safety.

Cowper grew up in Kenilworth and has many family and friends in Union, said Delisfort.  He began his career in the recreation industry at the YMCA at Five Points, serving as a site supervisor for after school programs at Washington, Livingston and Franklin Schools.  Cowper currently lives in Caldwell.

“Robert is excited to bring his unique blend of experience and passion to the Union Recreation Department,” said Delisfort.

“I’m honored to be given the chance to come into the township and bring my unique experience and ideas to the Recreation Department,” said Cowper.  "It’s a great opportunity for me to bring my experience and ideas to back where I started.  I'm very much looking forward to working with all of you."

Union's previous Recreation Director, DJ Salvante, was hired as Director of Recreation in Scotch Plains in December.
