UNION, NJ – After completing several months of rigorous training, Union’s five newest firefighters have officially joined the Department.

Christian Trejo, Jake Fernandez, David Abreu, Joseph Maté, and Joseph Giambusso celebrated the completion of their training on Thursday with Union firefighters, family and friends. 

“These five firefighters have worked hard these past 16 weeks,” said Union Fire Chief Mike Scanio, “receiving the best training to prepare them to protect and serve the citizens of Union. I am extremely proud of the them.”

Since the beginning of February, the recruits have had physical training every morning at Union High School with classroom training afterwards.  They participated in a live burn training session in April and then participated in EMS training.

 “They go through some rigorous training and put in a lot of work to earn their spot with our fire department,” said recruit trainer Lt. Michael Davitt.
