UNION, NJ – Raphael Aidan Perez (simply known as Aidan) was encouraged by his parents to learn the piano when he was in second grade, but it wasn’t until he was about ten years old that his pursuit and love of the instrument really began.
Perez, 14, is a 9th-grader at Union High School and will be playing the piano in the upcoming Union’s Got Talent show. “It was my mom who actually told me to audition for UGT on the day of auditions after my sister auditioned with her dance group,” he said. “I had not heard about UGT until the day of auditions.”
Perez will be performing “Holy, Holy, Holy”, a piece arranged by his piano teacher. “I decided to play it to honor my mentor, Mr. Paul Koslowski,” he said.
Asked what being in Union’s Got Talent means to him, Perez said, “Win or lose, I consider myself a winner because I will definitely learn from this experience.” Perez’ sister is also a finalist in a dance group, which “makes it even more memorable for our family,” he added.
Perez also loves playing basketball and is part of a non-profit basketball organization, HUSAY, the Hudson-Union Sports Association for Youth, where he has competed in various intercity basketball tournaments.
“I also love martial arts and have been a student/instructor in training in two of the local martial arts schools in Union,” added Perez. “I am also serving my community as an altar server at Saint Michael's Church in Union since I was in third grade.”
Union’s Got Talent will take place on Saturday, September 24, at 7:00 p.m., at the Union High School Theater.
