UNION, NJ – Union High School Junior Chris Erdman has enjoyed music and singing his entire life, but never sang in public until he was in UHSPAC’s production of “Beauty and the Beast” in 2011.
Erdman, 16, started playing guitar in sixth grade when he got his first electric guitar for Christmas. “I wanted to add something unique to my act,” said Erdman, “so I decided a percussion element would be a fun addition and the pedals allow me to add more depth to my sound without adding more people.” Erdman says it’s a ‘one-man band’.
In Union’s Got Talent, Erdman will be performing “Lover Come Back”, originally written and performed by the artist City and Colour. “I chose this song because it has both the musical simplicity of a rock and roll tune and the lyrical authenticity of a folk or soul tune.”
Erdman said being in Union’s Got Talent is exciting as an opportunity to play in a large venue and “the possibility of that cash prize is pretty cool.” About his future plans, Erdman aspires to create art in whatever capacity he finds interesting, whether in music, film or theater.
Union’s Got Talent will take place on Saturday, September 24, at 7:00 p.m., at the Union High School Theater.
