UNION, NJ – The Vauxhall Community Garden’s Food Pantry hosted a food giveaway on Saturday.

Robert White, one of the facilitators of the Community Garden, said the garden is in its third year.  He said it was founded by the Golden Rule Lodge and Chapter with a grant from the AtlanticHealth System.  White said part of the grant was geared toward healthy living and eating, “so that’s what we’re trying to do; teach people about healthy eating and living by eating fresh vegetables.”

“We have so many vegetables that we decided to harvest and donate everything to the seniors of Vauxhall and Union.  White said each donated bag contains cabbage, collard greens, string beans, corn, tomatoes, cucumbers and eggplant.

White said township officials donated the garden property and helped put the fence up.  “We’re very thankful to the Township of Union and the mayor for their help with the Community Garden.”  White said both lodge and community volunteers help in the garden.  Garden plots are available for individuals as well.

Each senior will receive a bag of fresh vegetables.  The Vauxhall Community Garden is located on the corner of Springfield and Eastside Avenues in Vauxhall.
