UNION, NJ - Dr. Gregory P. Charko was born in Elizabeth and raised and educated in New Jersey. While in high school, he attended courses at Columbia University’s Science Honors program. He was Valedictorian of the class of 1974 at Woodbridge High School.
Dr. Charko attended Cook College, a division of Rutgers University. On the Dean’s list for seven semesters, he graduated with high honors in biochemistry in 1978. After obtaining his undergraduate degree, Dr. Charko attended UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School. He received his M.D. in 1982.
Charko continued at UMDNJ-New Jersey and its allied hospitals in northern and central New Jersey for his orthopaedic surgery residency. In 1987, he entered private practice. He has been located in Union County for 30 years.
Although Dr. Charko is a general orthopedist, he also performs spinal surgery. This includes minimally invasive endoscopic disc removal in the lumbar spine. He performs arthroscopic surgery on the knee, shoulder, wrist, elbow, ankle and hip joints. In addition, he does joint replacement surgery especially in the knee and hip, and partial knee replacements. Dr. Charko treats fractures, either with conservative measures, such as casting, or with surgery for severe cases.
Not only is Dr. Charko an accomplished physician, he is an avid photographer, winning multiple awards for his photos.
