SCOTCH PLAINS, N.J. -- Union Catholic's school counselors attended the 15th annual School Counselor Conference at Kean University on Friday in Union.
Mrs. Jennifer Dixon, the Director of School Counseling at Union Catholic, and UC school counselors Ms. Ashley Whittemore, Mr. Mike Conte, Mrs. Joanne Jakubik, Dr. Cas Jakubik, and Sister Donna Jo Repetti, OSF, all attended the conference, which was held in cooperation with New Jersey School Counselor Association, New Jersey Association for College Admission Counseling and the Counselor Education Department, Kean University.
This year's conference highlighted issues and outcomes that school counselors assume and address in helping students and their families prepare future academic or career goals. The professional day of renewal provided a full day of retreat where counselors networked with colleagues and reinforced their skills through professional development workshops, sessions and program showcases designed to be informative, inspiring and memorable.
Mrs. Dixon said the counselors at Union Catholic are always looking for ways to help UC students.
"The Union Catholic School Counseling Department is committed to professional development in an effort to bring the highest level of service to our students,'' said Mrs. Dixon. "Counselors participated in educational sessions on cyber bullying, diversity, anxiety, suicide awareness, mindfulness, self care, and more.''
Mr. Conte said it was a great experience.
"I'd say that it was a great opportunity to learn about things that impact our students and hear from others in the field about ways that we can better help our UC Community,'' said Mr. Conte.
