UNION, NJ - Union 2019:  There were tears and there were smiles.  The community felt the profound loss of two young men, but there were happy moments, too.  Here’s a countdown of the top ten stories on TAPinto Union in 2019 (based on page views):

#10 - Union Mourns Death of 17-Year Old Union High School Junior:  Anthony Paul Steitz, 17, a Union High School junior was tragically killed in a car accident on Route 78 on April 27.

#9 - Statement From Mark David Regarding the Blackthorn Restaurant and Irish Pub:  Although technically not in Union, residents were curious and concerned about the closing of the Kenilworth restaurant and the maintenance of the property.

#8 - Tuesday Morning: 15-Year Old Stabbed in Abdomen:  Reported on May 14, police confirmed that a stabbing occurred and a 15-year old sustained wounds on his stomach.   The stabbing appeared to have occurred on Walker Avenue at around 8:00 a.m.  The victim was transported to University Hospital.

#7 - Morris County Man Charged in Connection with Hit-and-Run Death of Union Boy:  On Aug. 2, it was reported that Jose V. Marrero, 37, of the Lake Hiawatha section of Parsippany-Troy Hills, turned himself in to authorities. He was charged with second degree leaving the scene of the fatal accident which took the life of 12-year old Jeremy Maraj.

#6 - Part of Lehigh Avenue Closed with Police Presence for Possible Shooting:  At the time the story was published on Feb. 21, police had not confirmed any details, but it was reported a shooting at a business at 711 Lehigh Avenue had occurred.

#5 - Union High School Seniors Walk the Red Carpet:  Many of the young women and young men headed to Union High School's senior prom made a red carpet stop beforehand at the annual UTCAO-sponsored event.  Students and their guests walked the red carpet with hundreds of spectators, family and friends watching and cheering them on.

#4 - Union Football Player in Medically Induced Coma Since Oct. 25 Game; Gofundme Page Set Up:  Senior Kofi Ansah was on the football field Friday, October 25, when he suffered a lacerated spleen during the away game.  

#3 - Union Boy Dies After Wednesday Night Hit and Run on Galloping Hill Road:  On Friday, July 19, 12-year old Jeremy Maraj died from the injuries he sustained in a hit-and-run incident on July 17.  At the time of this report, the identification of Maraj had not been disclosed.

#2 - Postal Worker in Union Dumps Mail; Abandons Truck:  On May 4, police received a call from a resident who observed a mail carrier dump mail into his recycling bin.  Additionally, a call into police headquarters alerted police to a parked mail truck, which was left in an undisclosed location, unoccupied for most of the day.  

#1 - HBO Comes to Union:  Around noon on May 6, a scene was set up at a home on Barbara Avenue, near the intersection of High Street with vintage cars lining the street or parked in some nearby driveways.  Actors, dressed in 1940s clothes, waited for their call.
