UNION, NJ – A new exhibit is now showing at the Les Malamut Art Gallery, “Mystic Realms”, featuring the work of artist Winston Young.
“All of my pieces are diverse.” said Young, “It’s mythical and imaginary.”
Young said his work is the culmination of late nights working in his home after his days working in advertising. “I knew I was going to be an artist at the age of five,” he said, “when I was a little boy in the Philippines. I saw an older boy drawing a cow, and I was like, “wow”. It blew my mind that someone could create something so beautiful.”
Young works in different mediums and said he loves every form of art. “My favorite is European art. I’ve studied Chinese art, Indian and Islamic art. Any form of art that appeals to me. I want people to look at my art and get a reaction.” The Les Malamut show is Young’s first exhibit.
“My first reaction was ‘wow’,” said Township Committeeman Manuel Figueiredo of the exhibit. “It’s vibrant. It is so beautiful. It’ll bring up some images in your own mind.”
“Everyone should find a passion,” said Young. “It doesn’t matter if it’s art, music, sports. Do something that pleases yourself. Never give up. Just do what you love to do.”
“I’m doing something I love and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.” More information about artist Winston Young can be found on his website, winstonyoung.com.
Young’s “Mystic Realms” exhibit will be at the Les Malamut Art Gallery through the month of February. He will have another show at the gallery in September.
The Les Malamut Art Gallery is located in the Union Public Library, 1980 Morris Avenue.
