UNION, NJ – Union’s Shop Local, Eat Local event, held in conjunction with Small Business Saturday, took place in the Center on Saturday.
Small Business Saturday is a national effort which encourages holiday shoppers to visit local brick and mortar businesses. According to the Union Special Improvement District, who hosted the event, Shop Local, Eat Local was aimed to do this for the many "unique and independently owned businesses in the Center".
To celebrate, shoppers were able to receive an exclusive Shop Local, Eat Local canvas shopping bag from stores in the Center. There were also ribbon cuttings for four independent businesses located in the Center: Purple Kisses Pole Fitness, CannaBoy TreeHouse, Joann Hair and Nails Spa LLC, and Sabor de Mi Tierra.
“Just to have this opportunity, to be included in such a wonderful town as Union, and to be a celebrated small business is amazing,” said Linsey Lofton, co-owner of CannaBoy TreeHouse, “From day one when we approached the city, they were in full support. We are in debt and gratitude to the entire township. From Economic Development to the Fire Department and Buildings Department, they have all been wonderful and we really appreciate your support.”
Until December 14, ten businesses in the Center have donation bins where patrons can drop off non-perishable food items which will be donated to the Union Food Pantry. In return, they will receive a $5 gift certificate to be used at any of the participating businesses, incuding American Shave, Garden City Restaurant, and ModMara.
