UNION, NJ – An ice skating rink has been added to this year’s winter celebrations in Union.

During the Winter Weekend – Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2 – free ice skating will be available in front of Town Hall.   

“There’s nothing better than coming together to kick off the holiday season,” said Township of Union Mayor Suzette Cavadas.  “We’re excited to transform Town Hall into a winter wonderland and bring back one of Union’s most cherished events--the Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration.

Events begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1 with the opening of the free ice skating rink.  Skate rentals will be available on site.  Also, Alyssa Muniz, winner of the 2015 Union’s Got Talent show, will perform a musical show.  Select Union Special Improvement District (SID) merchants will be featuring dinner specials in area restaurants for Union residents.  Additional information will be available at the SID booth.

On Saturday, Dec. 2, the 34th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration will take place beginning at 3:00 p.m. with an ice carving demonstration by professional commercial sculptor, Bill Bywater.  The tree lighting ceremony will begin at 5:00.

Featuring holiday performances from local schools, the annual event draws hundreds of residents in celebration of the Holiday season.  The evening will feature arts and crafts, holiday games, food vendors and ice skating until 8:30 p.m. Union Center SID will also be sponsoring Holiday crafts and activities throughout Union Center beginning at 11:00 a.m.

The festivities will culminate with a visit from Santa, and the lighting of the Holiday tree. The event is free of charge to attend.

Photos with Santa will be available inside Town Hall immediately after the Tree Lighting.
