UNION, NJ - Union families are being encouraged to create a “QuaranTime Capsule” to capture positive memories their family has shared during their time at home together during the COVID-19 crisis.
It is recognized that all families have been impacted in some way by Covid-19 and taking on a time capsule project like this could help your family think about the happier times of the last few months. You can include both physical items and photos in your time capsule. Your physical items might include an at-home school project, a birthday hat from your socially-distanced birthday party, or a menu from your new favorite takeout restaurant. Pictures capturing how your family’s life changed could include a picture of mom working from home at her desk (the dining room table), or a snapshot of dad’s messed up homemade haircut, or maybe a kid’s selfie from game night.
Each family member can also write a short note to the rest of the family sharing their favorite stay-at-home moment and seal it in an envelope to be read when the time capsule is opened. Pile everything into a box – maybe from one of your recent online shopping orders – tape it shut and leave it out of sight so no one is tempted to peek until you’re ready to open it.
The Union Recreation Department encourages people to pick an opening date well in the future, maybe a year or two, and plan to make a night of it with the entire family. When you open it up you’ll be able to remember some of your family’s happier memories from this otherwise difficult time.
Union residents are welcomed to share what they're putting in their QuaranTime Capsule on Instagram @twpunionnjrec and @twpunionnj!
