UNION, NJ - Over 100 backpacks filled with school supplies were given away to township students Friday night at the Union Township Community Action Organization. The township, in partnership with MLB Residential Lending, LLC, organized the 2019 Back to School Backpack and Supply Drive over the last few weeks.
“Seeing the kids so excited about the backpacks makes us at MLB excited too,” said Luisa Salazer of MLB Mortgage. Titan Engineering, ConnectOne Bank, Union Fire FMBA and the UTCAO, and members of the community all donated to the event. Union’s Liberty Church made a special donation of school supplies for 6th graders.
The annual supply drive is intended to help bridge the gap between what families can afford and what students need for their school year. Four collection bins were located around the town for donations.
“This is a wonderful event for the community,” said Union Mayor Michele Delisfort. “I would like to thank everyone who contributed.”
