UNION, NJ - Livingston School students, staff and PTA members came together after school last week to help make a difference in children’s lives as they celebrate their birthday.
The Livingston School PTA created the idea of the ‘birthday bags’ and accepted donations from student families, staff and a generous cash donation from the school’s student council for material. The group assembled and decorated birthday bags for children in need. Each bag contained boxed cake mix, frosting, sprinkles, candles, cupcake wrappers or baking pans, paper goods, and party favors.
Livingston School students wrote birthday cards for inclusion in each bag. The bags were donated to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey in Hillside, where they will be distributed to local agencies. Diana Levy, the FoodBank's Schools & Community Outreach Manager, attended to the event. She spoke to the students about the impact they were making on their local community.
