UNION, NJ – Some shoppers at the ShopRite of Union on Wednesday evening were surprised to see New York Jets running back Le’Veon Bell bagging groceries at the store's “Help Bag Hunger” event.

Bell joined ShopRite associates to Help Bag Hunger by bagging groceries for customers in recognition of September’s National Hunger Action Month.

ShopRite partnered with Procter & Gamble to raise awareness about food insecurity with Bell’s store visit.  In recognition of September as National Hunger Action Month, ShopRite stores across New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland host annual ShopRite Partners In Caring “Help Bag Hunger” days.

Nearly 40 million Americans, including more than 12 million children, suffer from food insecurity. Since its inception in 1999, ShopRite Partners in Caring has donated $48 million to local food banks, supporting more than 2,200 charities that feed the hungry in communities served by ShopRite stores.
