UNION, NJ – Dance, exercise and give back. That’s what Union’s Rotary Club did recently when they hosted a ‘Zumba for Food’ event last week benefiting the Union Food Pantry.
"I’m so proud to be part of this club,” said event chairperson Claudia Schiavone. “The Zumba event couldn’t have been possible without the help and support of all the great people of our club and the community.”
Schiavone said the event raised $2,255 for the food pantry. “We asked attendees bring non-perishable food as well that will also go to the pantry.”
The Union Food Pantry serves over 400 families in Union. The Pantry has been run for 20 years through the Clerk’s Office. Some families depend on the Pantry on a regular basis. Others, just when they are experiencing a rough patch.
The Pantry only accepts nonperishable items and monetary donations including grocery store gift cards. The Food Pantry relies solely on donations to help the families it serves in Union.
Sponsors of the Rotary Zumba event included City Fire, SUMMIT Physical Therapy, CMIT Solutions of Union County, Rotarian Sal Dovi, and Northfield Bank in Union. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Union County generously donated their gym for the event.
