UNION, NJ – Several Union teens attended the recent Township Committee meeting to receive Certificates of Appreciation from the mayor and committee members for their participation in the Union Public Library Club Teen program.

According to Township Committeeman Clifton People, Jr., the club was formed to allow Union’s teens to have a voice that could help affect the community through community service and activities.

People said the club meets every month at the Vauxhall Branch Library to “enable teens to have a say in the type of programs and young adult material the library offers.”  Through their work, People said, the library has offered programs on healthy cooking, hands-on workshops, college and career prep seminars and financial literacy programs for teens within the community.

The club has organized several successful service projects including an ongoing food drive in partnership with the Golden Rule Lodge’s food pantry and the collection of personal items for local shelters, as well as volunteering their time during the Summer Reading Program.

“Congratulations the Union Public Library Club Teen,” said People, “and we thank them for their outstanding leadership and civil commitment to our community.”
