UNION, NJ - A second-grade class at Battle Hill Elementary School received a special visitor on Tuesday when Kyla, a Union County Sheriff's K-9 Officer, and her handler, Officer E. Ramirez, stopped in.

In their social studies unit, students in Stephanie Branco's class have been learning about their community.  With Officers Ramirez and Kyla, the class discussed different jobs students will encounter in their communities. Officer Ramirez discussed the job of a K-9 officer and the duties that come along with being in the K-9 unit. The students learned about the various responsibilities of K-9 handlers in the K-9 unit, what the dogs are expected to do, and how they are trained to become a K-9 police dog.
