UNION, NJ – Union’s 8th Annual Young Entrepreneur Challenge took place on May 21, showcasing fourth-grade Gifted and Talented students at each of Union’s elementary schools as they compete in the district-wide championship modeled after the show “Shark Tank”.

The process began with students coming up with an idea for a product or business. The students then created a business pitch for “investors” which included finances, print advertisement, public speaking, and a commercial.

Each school began with a minimum of two teams who competed against each other in the classroom to see who would move on to the district-wide competition. The winning teams then created a table display for their product or business for judging.

This year, the fourth-grade students presented their commercial and product pitch to four judges including Union Towship Public Schools Personnel Manager Akua Boakye, Union Mayor Michele Delisfort, and two members from the Bed, Bath, and Beyond Corporate Center.

“It was a really close competition,” said Craig Wojcik, supervisor of the Gifted & Talented Program/Assistant Director of IT, “Only a few points separated the second and third place teams.”
