UNION, NJ – As students and their families sat in and around their cars in the parking lot, Union High School’s Athletic Department celebrated senior athletes Wednesday night with a firework display on the field.
“I know this is not the way we planned it, but as strong athletes we deal the cards we’re dealt,” said Union Athletic Director Linda Ionta. “I am proud of all of you. All of our coaches are here tonight to celebrate you. I want you to stay healthy, stay safe, and we wish you nothing but the best in the future. Remember, Union High School is always your home.”
“I wish you nothing but the best of luck in your future endeavors,” said field hockey coach Adriana Damiano. “We miss you, but always remember you have a home here at Union High.”
The firework displays was donated by Backyard Heroes Fireworks. “We would like to thank Athletic Director Linda Ionta, the Athletic Department, the Board of Education, the Union Fire Department and the Union Police Department for helping make this happen,” an official from Backyard Heroes Fireworks said. “Congratulations Class of 2020.” The balloon display was donated by the Union Township Education Association.
