UNION, NJ – Members of the Union High School Performing Arts Company are preparing and rehearsing for their upcoming production of “Chicago: The High School Edition”, premiering Friday, March 29.
“We have an incredible wealth of talent in the band and “Chicago: The High School Edition” is right in their wheelhouse,” said co-music director Laura Muller. “This musical is a great vehicle for them.”
The famous play has been adapted to be content-appropriate for high school performers. The play, set in roaring twenties Chicago, tells the story of Roxie Hart, who murders her lover and is sent to prison. There, she and another “Merry Murderess”, Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of fame, fortune and acquittal.
“We wanted to pick a show that would showcase the dancers and singers,” said Melissa Abbate, co-music director. “This play certainly does that.”
“Chicago: The High School Edition” will be performed on March 29, 30, 31 and April 5, 6, 7. The Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday shows will begin at 2:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
