UNION, NJ – If her fellow Battle Hill School teachers, parents, and friends have their way, teacher Francesca Minnoia will be headed for a well-deserved vacation soon.
Minnoia has been nominated for the Norwegian Cruise Line's “15 Teachers, 15 Gifts of Joy” contest, for a free seven-day cruise. Norwegian Cruise Lines is giving the cruise for two to 15 teachers in the United States and Canada
According to the nomination, for Christmas, Minnoia purchased a gift for each student from their list to Santa. For graduation, she is purchasing a drum set for one of her musically passionate students. “While she has mothered two of her own, she has raised and molded countless elementary students who have personal experiences beyond their years," read the nomination. "She transforms these students from pessimists into hopeful tiny humans.”
The winners will also receive an exclusive invitation to an award ceremony on May 3 in Seattle and the chance to win the grand prize of $15,000 for their school.
"I am completely humbled by this nomination," said Minnoia. "I enjoy working everyday with my students. They honestly teach me something new everyday."
“I cannot think of anyone who deserves it more,” said fellow Battle Hill teacher Jessica Mongiovi, who nominated Minnoia. “To say she goes above and beyond for her students is an understatement. She has created and modeled a positive communal atmosphere for these kids who really need it. Fran makes each one of them feel special every day. The transformation of a student in her room from day one is incredible.”
