UNION, NJ – Retired Union Police Detective Lieutenant Joseph W. Dilginis passed away on Monday, Nov. 5.
According to a social media post from the Union Police Department, Dilginis, 61, spent his career with the Union Police, but “above all else he was a loving husband and father. Everyone knew him as a family man who truly was a good person, selfless, and caring with a great sense of humor.”
"While I didn't personally know Lt. Dilginis well, because he retired shortly after I was hired here, the women and men of the UPD always spoke very highly of him," said Union Police Director Daniel Zieser. "He was known to be a great police officer, boss, family man, and just a nice guy by all who knew him. I wish to extend condolences to the family and friends of Joe."
Dilginis was born in Elizabeth, but grew up in Union, before moving to Flemington, then Beach Haven West.
Dilginis is survived by his wife of 37 years, Karen Dilginis (nee Roessle), his daughter Shannon and son-in-law Brian Novinski of Basking Ridge, and his daughter Lindsay Dilginis of Bristol, Pennsylvania. He also leaves behind his adored dog Bailey.
