UNION, NJ - Union firefighters and police responded to a fatal, fiery accident after a tractor trailer and car collided on Route 78 East early Wednesday morning.

 

At about 3:30 a.m., firefighters arrived at the scene and found a tractor trailer had collided with a single vehicle and the car had burst into flames.  The occupant of the vehicle was deceased, according to Union fire officials.  No further information on the occupant is available. The truck driver was taken to University Hospital for precaution.

The truck cargo was Chinese food containers which liquified and hardened in the road. The fire was extinguished and the aftermath was dealt with by the New Jersey State Police.  There were no injuries reported to Union firefighters or police officers. 

An accident investigation continues but some lanes are open.
